Bespoke tensile structures for a luxury safari experience
We designed and delivered a series of tensile fabric tented suites for Mahali Mzuri in Kenya, creating a refined, low-impact accommodation that blends performance with the surrounding landscape.
Luxury Tensile Fabric Tented Suites
Mahali Mzuri, part of Virgin Limited Edition’s global portfolio, required a series of high-end tented suites within the Maasai Mara, an environment defined by its natural beauty, wildlife and environmental sensitivity.
The challenge was to create structures that could deliver the comfort and quality expected of a luxury retreat, while maintaining a minimal visual and environmental footprint. The accommodation needed to feel immersive and connected to the landscape.
At the same time, the structures had to perform in a demanding climate, providing shelter, durability and safety in a remote location, with limited access and logistical constraints.

High Quality Tented Structures
We designed, manufactured and delivered a collection of 12 bespoke tensile fabric tented suites, each positioned on a raised platform to enhance views and provide separation from surrounding wildlife.
Each structure features a conical PVC fabric roof supported by a cantilevered arch system, creating a clean, lightweight form that balances structural efficiency with architectural clarity.
The fabric was specified in a dark grey tone, allowing the buildings to sit quietly within the landscape and reduce visual impact across the site.
All elements were carefully detailed and manufactured in the UK before being transported to site and installed using a local workforce, ensuring both quality control and local engagement in the delivery process.

Luxury Accommodation Without Intrusion
The completed suites deliver a high-end guest experience while maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding environment. Elevated above the ground plane and open to expansive views across the Maasai Mara, each structure offers a sense of immersion without compromising comfort or safety.
These tents offered an alternative to traditional construction that is lighter, faster and more responsive to its setting. The structures provide durability and performance while remaining visually understated, allowing the landscape to remain the primary focus.
