Delivering a large-scale suspended feature ceiling within a landmark retail destination
We designed and installed a bespoke suspended ceiling installation at the O2 Designer Outlet Village, creating a dynamic, immersive environment that enhances the retail experience.
Creating Impact in a Retail Environment
The O2 Designer Outlet Village formed part of the wider transformation of The O2 into a destination-led retail and leisure environment. The brief required a feature installation that would animate the internal walkways, enhancing the visitor experience while complementing the scale and character of the surrounding architecture.
The challenge was to introduce a visually striking intervention across a large, open retail street without obstructing movement, sightlines or performance of the space. The installation needed to work at height, integrate seamlessly with the structure and deliver a consistent visual effect across multiple zones.

A Suspended Petal System
We designed, manufactured and installed a bespoke suspended ceiling system formed from stainless steel tensioned nets, supporting thousands of individual aluminium elements.
Across the scheme, eight canopy mast structures support the installation, from which over 4,700 white aluminium 'petals' and more than 5,300 circular discs are suspended in varying sizes.
These elements are carefully arranged to create the impression of a floating canopy, with the supporting laminated timber columns acting as 'tree trunks' within the space. The result is a layered, three-dimensional installation that introduces depth, movement and visual rhythm throughout the retail environment.
Despite its complexity, the entire system was delivered within an accelerated 11-week programme, requiring close coordination between design, fabrication and installation teams.

An Experiential Retail Environment
The completed installation transforms the internal walkways of the outlet village into a more engaging and memorable space. The suspended 'petal' canopy creates a constantly shifting visual experience as visitors move through the environment.
By combining lightweight structural systems with creative design, the project demonstrates how tensile and suspended installations can redefine retail environments by adding atmosphere, identity and visual interest without compromising functionality.
More broadly, it reflects a shift in how retail spaces are conceived: not simply as places to shop, but as experiences to explore. This project shows how carefully engineered interventions can play a central role in shaping that experience at scale.
