James Avis

Technical Operations Manager

James joined Base Structures in 2017, initially working in roles including Site Manager, Rope Access & Lifting Operations Manager and Health & Safety Manager. In 2022, he moved to New Zealand for two years, where he works for a company specialising in fabric structures, before returning to the UK and rejoining Base Structures in 2024 as Technical Operations Manager.

Before joining Base, James worked in the geotechnical sector between 2002 and 2017, gaining extensive experience on major infrastructure and construction projects. During this time, he took on works management responsibilities on significant schemes including Crossrail, developing a strong background in complex site operations, planning and coordination.

James holds a BA in Philosophy alongside a wide range of technical and operational qualifications, including IRATA Level 3, Appointed Person for Lifting Operations, Lifting Supervisor, Slinger Signaller, IPAF and Telehandler Operator certifications.

At Base, James oversees the planning and management of rope access and lifting operations, while supporting project teams with practical buildability solutions and specialist operational planning. His role also includes the preparation of RAMS documentation and lift plans, procurement of specialist equipment and close collaboration with designers and installation teams to help safely deliver complex projects.
