Duncan Baird

Project Manager & Head of Installations

Duncan has worked in the tensile fabric industry for more than 30 years, starting his career in 1995 and gaining experience across every stage of a project. The first half of his career was spent on site, travelling worldwide to install complex tensile structures in a wide range of environments. Over the past 15 years, his focus has shifted into project management and planning, helping oversee projects from concept through to delivery.

Duncan joined us in 2007 as an Installation and Project Manager, bringing together hands-on site experience with practical project leadership. He holds a BSc (Hons) Degree in Environmental Planning, which has helped shape his understanding of how complex structures interact with the built environment and the wider challenges of construction projects.

Over the years, Duncan has worked on some of Base Structures’ most notable projects. His first project with the company was Heathrow Terminal 5, while some of the most exciting periods came during the London 2012 Olympics, where Base delivered structures for the Basketball Arena, Velodrome and Shooting Arenas. The O2 Roof Walk stands out as one of the most challenging projects he has worked on, while the University of Nottingham remains one of the most technically complex.

Duncan thrives on working on ambitious construction projects that bring together talented architects, engineers and installers to solve problems and create something unique. He particularly enjoys the collaborative nature of the work and the challenge of turning bold ideas into practical, buildable solutions.

He is especially proud of the achievements of delivering both the O2 Roof Walk and University of Nottingham projects, which pushed the limits of coordination, engineering and delivery, while showcasing the kind of complex challenges that defines our work.
