Delivering a high-performance tensile enclosure
We engineered and installed a stainless steel cable net enclosure for Jaguar Jungle, creating a safe, immersive habitat designed around animal welfare and visitor experience.
Designing for Safety, Scale and Experience
Paradise Wildlife Park required a robust enclosure for its new “Jaguar Jungle” habitat, an ambitious project designed to provide a more natural, immersive environment for its animals while enhancing visitor engagement. The enclosure needed to safely contain Category 1 animals, while maximising space, height and visibility.
The design also needed to support a modern zoo experience, including features such as elevated viewing and underwater observation, placing greater emphasis on openness and immersion rather than traditional barriers. Delivering this safely, at scale, and within the constraints of an existing zoo environment presented a complex engineering challenge.

A Lightweight, High-Strength Cable Net System
We designed, manufactured and installed a stainless steel cable net enclosure, engineered to provide both strength and transparency. The structure spans approximately 32m x 30m and is divided into two interconnected zones, allowing for flexible animal management within the habitat.
The enclosure is formed from a network of tensioned cable nets supported by central masts and perimeter steelwork. Roof cables fan out from the central supports to the perimeter beams, creating a stable yet lightweight structure that minimises visual obstruction.
The mesh panels are stitched into five distinct sections and integrated with the supporting cable system, ensuring consistent tension and performance across the entire enclosure. This approach allows for large, uninterrupted spans while maintaining the safety and durability required for long-term use.

An Immersive Habitat, Built for Modern Zoos
The completed enclosure forms the core of Jaguar Jungle, a first-of-its-kind habitat in the UK featuring underwater viewing and an environment designed to reflect the jaguar’s natural behaviour.
By removing the need for heavy, visually intrusive barriers, the cable net system creates a more open and engaging experience for visitors, while providing the space and vertical complexity required to support animal welfare. The structure enables a closer connection between people and wildlife without compromising safety or performance.
The project demonstrates how tensile and cable net systems can redefine enclosure design, delivering environments that are not only secure, but immersive, flexible and aligned with the evolving standards of modern conservation-led attractions.
