After providing many years of sterling service, the fabric, metal, paint and woodwork began to look rather tired and in need of attention. The original engineers, Barton Simpson, were commissioned to produce a tight and exacting scope of work to be carried out over the summer holiday period of 2009, and by dint of competitive pricing, Base Structures secured the contract. The work was completed over an eight week period and included replacing all the fabric and catenary cables, renewing ironmongery where required, returning tie rods to the correct pre-tension and completely recoating the paintwork. Base Structures also provided support and assistance for the ‘special’ laminated beam contractor in completing their works. The job was completed in good time for the return of the pupils and the canopy is now fit and proper and ready to continue protecting the offspring of our Mediterranean cousins from the ravages of the West London sun for many years into the future.
